Hawaiian shirts, crazy socks, and shoeless performances are all a part of this group’s fun-loving ethos. A Minnesota based band, Alec John and The Sky Surfers blend mellow vocals with infectious rhythms to create their blend of 50’s inspired indie surf rock. Their songs recall a lost age of simpler times: the growing pains of life and love. The band draws influence from artists such as: Dick Dale, Hippo Campus, Roy Orbison, and Mac Demarco.
The Sky Surfers are: Andrew Peterson on drums/percussion, Aaron Hernandez with lead guitar, Jacob Ross on Bass/backup vocals, and Alec Maertens on rhythm guitar and lead vocals. They formed while attending Minnesota State University, Mankato where the only thing you can surf regularly is snow, but This band proves that you don’t have to live by an ocean to make beach inspired music.
